Can the 444 Marlin cartridge be fired in the 11x65R chamber?
    Thanks

I don't suppose you have a chamber cast, do you?

      Chuck,
With very few exceptions, you shouldn't fire modern caliber ammo in older drillings not chambered for it,or modern drillings/other combo guns for that matter. There are more than one versions of 11x65R,consequently germanguns1234s mention of a chambercast, and I would say "slugging" the barrel is also necessary.Even the 444 case is not the best for handloading the version of 11x65R with a similar head diameter. To start with the 444 case will be about 8mm short. Also it is not a rimmed case, rather it is simi-rimmed and would be very likely to slip behind the extractor. The best avaliable case(for this headsize) is 7x65R and failing that, 9.3x74R can be used.Careful handloading for your drilling would be rewarding itself. If you can post the dimensions of a chamber cast and the barrel's groove diameter, several members will be happy to help you get started.

I have not purchased it. Just thinking how I might be able to use it for hunting deer in Ohio if the 444 Marlin cartridge would work. Looks like it is not the best idea. Seller claims it has a .429 bore.
        Seller maybe misleading potential buyers.
        Thanks for the responses.

          Jim,
Does it have .429 bore or.429 groove diameter? If it is .429 groove diameter(right for 44 cal.) it could be 10.75x65R (a little larger than normal .424).If it's .429 bore diameter, the groove diameter would be too large for 44cal anyway. If you can use rifles in Ohio, you can handload ammo for which ever caliber it turns out to be.If I were you, I would make my decision based on condition, etc. rather than caliber.

I would never shy away from a gun because of the ammunition. That can be fixed. Just make them knock the price down to cover the new brass and mould.

              Gedaco 11.15 x 65R aka 11x65R

Agree that a chambercast & bore slug are in order to confirm your guns true chamber size. I measured a original Gedaco 11.15 x 65R cartridge from my collection

              Rim dia. .517
              Base dia. .465
              Neck dia. .461
              Bullet dia. .442
              Rim thickness.045
              Case OAL 2.555
              Cart OAL 3.080

              hope this might help
