cz777,
I don't know if there are any "real" torque specs, for that. I just pull the front screw up as tight as I can with a well fitting screwdriver, and turn the rear one in firmly(to avoid bending the action). The original military actions had locking screws, so the guard screws had to be turned to match one of the "cutouts" (they had for practical purposes pilar bedding), rather than a specific torque. I would be interested in what Axel can find, in this regard.

Torque specs for M98 Mauser action srews?? Bullshit, there never were any! First, the barreled action and the bottom metal have to be properly bedded, so there is no bending stress applied to the receiver when the screws are tightened. If not, use glass bedding. Then follow Mike Ford's recipe.

`Proper bedding without glass requires the tube for the rear screw and the recoil lug for the front screw to bear on the bottom metal, and no areas between them causing bending of the action.Because of the weakness of the action at the "thumb cut", it is essential that no bending stress, as Axel stated,be applied. The original bedding is essentially "Pillar Bedding" that modern shooters thought they invented.
