I recently acquired a Haenel Aydt Schuetzen rifle for active Schuetzen participation. As a result of this intended use, the weather to which the rifle will be exposed will vary highly as we shoot outdoors. Temps will range from the 30's to extremely warm and humid. Given this use, what is the best tactic to preserve and maintain not only the stock finish but the rifle itself. The current stock finish looks to be original and an oil finish. It is in fairly good condition with rather nice grain. I want to be able to use yet preserve the rifle as I sense I am but one of the passing custodians of this particular piece.
