  • 16 Gauge Shotgun Slugs

I have been following the thread on the Brenneke 16 ga slugs with some interest. I will be using my 9.3 x 72R X 16 ga combo gun for deer hunting this fall, and I would like to stick a slug in the shotgun barrel "just in case". However, the Wisconsin deer gun season starts in just 6 days, and I don't think I will be able to get any of the Brenneke slugs in time. I was able to find a box of Federal 4/5 oz Foster type slugs with an advertised muzzle velocity of 1600 fps. My gun does have 70mm chambers, and the choke measures as modified. The gun is nitro proofed. What is the opinion on using these slugs? I guess I am most worried about harming the barrel because of the choke.

    norsk,

I am not familiar with Fosters recommendations with regard to choked barrels but perhaps I can help you out with acquiring some Brenneke slugs. Where in Wisconsin are you? Send me a PM and maybe we can work something out.

      norsk,
The Federal slugs are made so they wouldn't damage your gun and should be" fine", until you can find Brennekes.

Thanks for the help. I'll probably stick a Federal slug in the chamber for my hunt ("just in case"!) and experiment with the Brennekes when I can get some.
