  • News from Brenneke USA - 65mm (2 1/2") 16ga Classic Slugs

    All,

Today I received word from Brenneke USA that the 2 1/2" (65mm) 16 ga "Classic" slugs are en route to Brenneke's warehouse in IA. From there they will be distributed per your request.

There you go, the day is finally here that those of us with 65mm chambered shot tubes, be they SXS, O/U or combination guns, will have the ability to shoot Wilhelm Brenneke's patented slugs as they were intended since 1898.

    Cheers and Waidmannsheil!

    Hi Mark,
Do you have contact info for ordering them as I am looking forward to having some distributed my way when I can figure who to contact for ordering.
    Thanks

I emailed Midway this morning and asked to be notified when they have them. Maybe if some others did the same, they would get the idea.

          Mark,
A big hand goes out to you for all you have done to help make this happen, it will be nice to be able to purchase proper ammunition for our old treasures & help get them back in the field where they belong!

            M-4,

Thank you but I’m not sure what all I had said, in my discussions with Brenneke (USA and Germany), that convinced them to go ahead with the program or how much others may have said but I would like to think it had something to do with my citing the interest and passion that I have seen expressed, on this forum and others, for our German and Austrian treasures. As a collector I threw in my two cents with regard to the notion of lengthening the chambers of a collectable but you know such doesn’t bother everybody. I’m just happy that they are finally on their way to the warehouse. We, in the US, have had the 2 1/2" (65mm) shot shell option open to us for a long time by way of RST, Polywad and I understand others but now our ability to use our combination guns as they had been used in days past is complete. The picture below is of the new box design that was given to me close to one year ago. It goes to show that getting new product into production can take a while. I have had it tacked to my bulletin board, front and center, since receiving it from Brenneke USA's manufacturing representatives. I sure hope it hasn’t changed much, if any, because I have grown rather accustom to the image of Wilhelm.

Germanguns1234 mentions Midway USA as one dealer to begin contacting and inquiries to a few of the others would surely help the effort as well. I typically buy a fair amount from Midway in the course of a year so I'll be following his lead. If sales are good I would think the "Classic" 65mm 16's will remain on the shelves for many years to come. I’m personally curious as heck to see how they shoot in relation to my rifle barrels so I'm looking forward to taking a bunch out to my range as soon as I get my hands on some.

            Regards,

            Mark

and they are here ... for real.

Performance wise the 65mm is very close to the 70mm "Classic" sold in Europe:

              Muzzle Velocity: 65mm - 1350 ft/sec and 70mm - 1362 ft/sec

              Energy at Muzzle: 65mm - 1686 ft/lbs (2286 Joules) and 70 mm - 1715 ft/lbs (2325 Joules)

              Regards,

              Mark

I have been waiting to see, via replies, how Brenneke USA's distributors have been responding to folks inquiring about the new cartridges. The box and cartridges shown in my latest post came to me directly from Brenneke USA but if anybody is having difficulties acquiring some it would be nice to know. BTW, I never heard anything back from Midway USA; how about you? I know Brenneke USA didn't have Midway USA on their list but like you I figured if enough of us asked they might at least think about carrying them.

They carry some Brenneke but they told me that since they don't have an sku for these that they can't send out notifications. Will they tell you who has ordered?

I contacted my Brenneke USA guy and asked him about how the Midway USA deal works; haven't heard back as yet. I also did some other checking around, just for kicks, and contacted Ellett Brothers in Ohio (just pulling a number out of the hat) and inquired as to whom in southern MO, thinking of our friend sharps4590 (Vic), that our members could contact … OK, non-members too.

So here’s how it went. I called Ellett Brothers who then gave me the number of Hunting Corner, LLC in Monroe City, MO (573/735-5406). I then made a call to Hunting Corner and got Chris, the owner. Chris then told me that all a person has to do, in this case say Vic, is to come into his shop and tell him what he wants to buy; a bunch of 65mm 16ga slugs. Chris would then place an order with Ellett Brothers and later call Vic to let him know his cartridges have arrived, done.

                        Update:

Midway can order them through one of the previously listed distributors, if they deal with them. The item number is SL-162BR

The distributors that have them now or will have them in stock this week are:

                        WL Baumler
                        Camfour
                        Green Supply

Does anyone know what the cost will be for these shotgun slugs?
                          Thanks!

They are supposed to be selling for the same price as the 70mm 16ga "Classic" which is $10.00. I trust that purchases of substantial quantity will be awarded discounts but the launch is still early. Brenneke is still getting product out to their distributors and to my knowledge Ellett Brothers, for one, doesn't have them in stock as yet.

I'm waiting to hear how folks have been doing with their inquiries to dealers; any comments?
