  • Help on a Mauser ID....

I have, what I believe is a pre WW1 Mauser Sporting Rifle.. The rifle has no marks on it, except for the word "Germany" on the front left of the action and the letters "BSI." on the right side of the barrel at the action.. There is no serial numbers of any kind on the rifle. The rifle has a 23" barrel, with a front sling swivel apparently soldered to the barrel, a folding leaf rear sight, standard mauser type safety, a double set trigger and a rounded pistol grip. It has a hinged floorplate with a button release. The stock is a very nice piece of checkered walnut with a schnabel forend and a monte Carlo cheekpiece. The area of the stock, under the action, has raised panels. There is a swivel mounted on the buttstock approx 5 1/2" from the buttplate. The action, floorplate and trigger guard all have some type of scroll engraving on them and the rifle has a plain steel buttplate.. The rifle is in excellent shape with probably 98+% bluing. The stock has a couple of small scratchs on it, but is in probably 95-98%. I do not know the caliber, but from measuring the bore, I would guess it was an 8mm of some kind..

I believe this might be a Mauser Sporting Rifle Model B, but I am not sure..

    Some additional information....
Took the barreled action out of the stock and found the following...
Inside the barrel channel is stamped number 812
By the recoil lug opening is the following 79 3 94
On the bottom of the barrel near the receiver is the number 812 and what appears to be a German Eagle type crest.
On the bottom front of the receiver is the number 812
On the flat bottom of the action behind the recoil lug is the following..
    7 F H and T Y K 80
Please help. I can send pictures on request..

    Thanks

    Dave,
It seems that the serial number is 812.It would be helpful if you could post clear photos, including of all the markings. If it is a Mauser Sporting Rifle, it should be marked as Mauser. It could be one built by someone else with a Mauser commercial action. If so, it should have their serial number stamped on the rear of the magazine box. Without this number, or marking, it could have been made with a surplus military action. I think photos will tell the tale.

Is this the rifle that Duane Wiebe posted on another forum that it was a post WW11 custom?
