Considering having sling swivels added to my Merkel o/u shotgun. Do the shotgun barrels need to be reblued after? Is it possible to add 1 inch swivels?

Depending on which type sling swivel you use, you may or may not have to blue the barrels. The neatest type is soldered on and would reguire, at least, touching up the bluing. The second type loops around the bottom barrel, and is screwed to the ribs. Either type can have 1" swivels fitted, but after using slings on my shotguns for 50 years, I prefer narrower slings.

I will second the narrower German sling. I always liked the 1 inch American sized sling over all those wide, so called "cobra" slings and since ordering slings of the correct size for my vintage German firearms I like them even better than the 1 inch. Maybe it's because I'm fatter and they have something more to grab hold of rather than slide off like the wider ones do!!Comment
