  • Heym Scope Rings Mount-Warne

Have a Heym Double Rifle-270,that came with older set of Warne TD mounts for the Pecar 4x81 Scope (26mm).The Rear mount has stripped out ,Warne has no parts left and will not help.
Any help appreciated to solve my problem.I did contact Tally they have some mounts that might fit the base but in 1"

    nhdblfan,
That is a model 22 N (44N if it had extra barrels) and underneath the rear base there is likely another dovetail with a notch on the right side. This accepts a one-piece slide on mount with 1"/26mm rings. The same mount fits older Brno o/u doubles and combination guns, as well as some others. Both Eric Recknagel (ERA) and Ernst Appel Wurzburg (EAW) made/make this mount. New England Custom Guns deals in their products and may be able to help. Failing that, you might be able to have the existing base repaired. You didn't say whether it was the male thread or female thread (or both) that stripped. If it was the male side, your gunsmith should be able to make a new one (it won't be as cheap as a Warne replacement would have been). If it was the female side, the gunsmith might be able to bush the hole (larger bushing, Loc-Tite in) and drill/tap the bushing. It may look like the male part can't be removed, but it likely can be.

      Thanks Mike,

Both the base of the ring=
-female and the screw-male for the lever are stripped,I may be able to "help" the threads in the screw and retap the base-or as you say have a smith drill it out and put some sort of bushing(helecoil).I will take that base off and see whats under it.I am not far from NEG.
My other option, since the base seems ok-although no provision for a newer type lug, would be a set of rings -26mm that would work on that base,so far no luck with that.
Lastly I may order a se of the 1" rings Tally has that they say will fit that base, sell the Scope and put a 1" Scope on it.

      Thanks

        David,
Since I don't have the rifle "in hand" my guess of what is wrong may be in error, if the female thread is in the lever, you may be able to tap it out to a larger diameter thread (fine) and make a new larger diameter matching screw. The photo seems to show two bases screwed to the barrel and the front one seems to have a "ledge" to act as a stop. If it is intended to be a "stop", it seems to be backward, and the ring should be against the ledge. It very difficult to depend on friction alone to hold the scope against recoil. Trying to tighten it enough to keep it from slipping may be what caused it to slip. I have used small roll pins cross wise in dovetails or screws in the top of bases to act as stops when there was no positive stops otherwise. If I misunderstand the problem, I apologize.

          Hi Mike,
yes the rear scope ring is stripped so the screw -also stripped that goes in the lever will not start.I am attaching a pic of the base that shows, yes a ledge that the dovetail fits in,I am not a fan of it as it was designed I guess pre Pic rail type with a recoil slot,if I could find other bases that would fit it that would be fin too.I will try and get them off so I can see if they have any markings and show the top of the rib..
          thanks for helping

You are welcome. Good luck on the project, I'm sure you will get it repaired or replaced.

Sorry for delay in replies, busy bidding on gun auctions.
I went back to the Heym Rings and with a friend we found the front ring is 10x32 RH but back one,the stripped one is 10x32 left hand.Does that seem possible ?thanks

Yes, it can be possible, they may have wanted the levers to be oriented toward each other. By the way, the levers on this type of mount of mount can be adjusted to line up when tightened. They should be adjusted so they don't "bottom out", otherwise you don't know if they are tight.

Well it worked, 10-32 left hand thread tap and die chased the treads and got it all back on, might take it off and add some loctight after aligning them
