Hello All,
Here is the fifth gun I am trying to identify from my fathers collection. Looking for the same info as before, Year of Manufacture, any history possible, Gauge/Caliber and value. I hope the pictures do it justice. Please let me know if there are any questions. And once again thanks for all the help in advance. Also any word, sentence or phrase translations would be great.

This fine old drilling was proofed in Zella-Mehlis in August 1911 with ledger number 1227. We know it was Zella-Mehlis, because Suhl did not date them at this time, and didn't list a ledger number.Another indication is the word "Nitro", being in script. Suhl used block letters. The 118.35 is the bore diameter expressed as ga.Barrels with this bore(not groove) diameter often have a groove diameter of around .358", which makes it easier to load for since bullets are easier to find. It was marked later with the 9.3x72 Norm., which is the normally used caliber designation.Since there is no "repair" proof, it is likely thes stamp was added later to aviod confusion. Caliber designation in this form was required after 1939, but I think this mark was added earlier, because it didn't include the "R"(rimmed) which it would have post 39.The Norm. just means "standardized". The drilling was made "for the trade" and is not clearly marked as to the maker. Note that inside the recess for the "dolls head"there are the initials "EK".This is likely the mark of the maker, in or around Zella-Mehlis.Maybe one of the many Krieghoffs. The "Prima" is just the particular alloy of fluidsteel, made by Krupp in Essen. I hope you find this helpful.

Once again, thanks for all this great info. Just so you know I am printing and keeping all of this with the guns so that it will be available to my sons when the guns are passed on to them, and they will know and understand the history involved with each of the magnificent guns! ! !

I have a few questions as to the understanding of the use of NITRO:
The term Nitro means that the gun was originally proofed or at some point reproofed for what we now term as today's modern smokeless powders. is this correct?

If so, is this referring to the shotgun barrels, rifle or all barrels?

Thats right, but the Nitro proof mark is the official designation, and was applied to each barrel so proofed. I'm glad your sons will have their grandad's guns, they should mean a lot to them and I'm sure your dad would be real happy also.

Gene, I've been following your posts regarding your Dad's firearms, as I'm certain many others are also. I can't help you but as you've learned there are certainly those who are able. I agree with Mike that it's great to see preparations for the handing down of firearms from Father to Son. That and I just wanted to say your Dad had greaty taste!!!!!!!
