  • 7.7mm Bittner

    Hello Everyone
Does anyone have any leads on ammunition, reloading dies and or reloading data for 7.7mm Bittner? Also looking for original stripper clips if anyone has them or knows a source?
    Thank you very much,
    Tom

    Thomasg,
Guessing the 7.7Bittner you are looking for is the 7.7x17R Bittner Pistol Cartridge. We are more into sporting rifle cartridges and have little to no experience with antique pistol ammo. Nevertheless, I believe the best and most available donor case would be the 32 S&W Long case. It has a case head diameter the same as the 7.7( 8.53mm) The rim diameter is less than the 7.7's 10.00mm, so it wouldn't need reducing. The rim thickness of the 7.7 is 1.25mm whereas the 32 is 1.35mm. The rim thickness is likely to need thinning, but the amount will depend on the actual headspace of the pistol. The primer pocket can be modified by a small primer pocket size primer pocket uniformer. The case length can easily be trimmed to 16.96mm. It is likely that normal loading dies for 32 S&W/ S&W Long and Shell holders can be used but the expander might need changing to hold the 7.70 mm bullet while feeding. On the other hand, your chances of finding original stripper clips( enbloc clips?) is pretty slim, so you might have to single feed it anyway. I hope this helps.

We had this Bittner pistol about a decade ago and sold. It was made in 1897.
