  • Anyone know about this scope

I have this Hensoldt scope that has non adjustable mounts attached. As you can see it has the usual vertical adjustment knob on top. It also has the two screw heads behind the knob. My queastion is what are these two screw heads used for? Possibly for windage? I don’t want to turn them unless I know what they are for.

    Leatherman,
I suggest you reach out to Axel, I don't know what they are for but he likely will. I also don't know what the DIAPI lang stands for, the screws may have something to do with it.

These two screws just fasten the elevation “turret” to he scope tube. Sorry, but there is no internal windage adjustment on these scopes. As your mount rings don’t have windage adjustments either, it must have been done by shifting the bases on the rifle sideways in their dovetails.
The ca 1960 Hensoldt “Diapi” series were scopes for small bore rifles. There were 3 models of the original Diapi design. First there was the tiny Diapi 1.5 x7.5, 5.4” long, tube diameter .55”. A short-lived “rule breaker” for elderly target shooters. Though scopes were prohibited for competition, “optical aiming aids” were allowed, provided they did not exceed size and magnification limits. So Hensoldt offered a scope that fits those limitations.

Then there was the Diapi kurz = short, 2.5 x15 mm, 6.7” long, 22mm = 7/8” tube. As this was too short to be mounted on many guns, it was offered to in your “Diapi lang” = long version to allow for a longer mount rings distance.
