I have a friend near Atlanta that is interested in procuring a drilling to hunt with. Does anyone know if there are any shops in the southeast that may have any on hand?

Mike Ford might know as he lives in Alabama. I'm certain he'll respond when he sees this.
Barring that, Simpson's Ltd. in Galesburg, Ill. usually has some in stock and Guns International always has a wide selection. Buying off line doesn't appeal to some but, there is certain classes of firearms you don't run down to the local shop and find. Drillings definitely fall into that class. I've bought all my drillings off line and have no complaints.

Simpson's Ltd. mentioned by sharps 4590 is a source as is T&G German Gun Imports in Mobile Al., but 4-M Firearms Import Service in Marietta, Ga is right in his backyard. I suggest your friend resist the temptation to buy one chambered for 12 ga and 30-06. A 16 ga, with a 6.5x57R, 7x57R, 8x57 IR or IRS with a 60cm barrel will be much lighter and more responsive. He will be better served If he can find one with a 6 or 4 power scope already mounted than counting on having one mounted later.

Not only a good gun, but it means a lot to me because one of the people that helped me rebuild it was a grandson of Meffert, had apprenticed in the factory and in 1938 had peined the side clips. He also let me have all three barrel blanks for the price of one. Plus, he was a friend from my first tour in Germany,
Mike
