Thanks for the add, just picked up this Emil Kerner 16 ga, my first German shotgun, 29 in barrels, short chambers, horn trigger guard and grip cap. I collect, shoot and reload 16 ga only and turning my collection towards European sxs`s. Beside the Kerner I have a french Darne. Any info on the Kerner would be great, already got a lot on the 16 ga forum

    Hello
Look here (see link). I still don't have access to my library. I will look when I'm on the computer again. There are other threads on the Kerner's. Try the search function.

I found it a little strange that there are not crown S marks for proof to use shot. I can't see the barrels and they may carry provisional proof as tubes. The left barrel is choked, so it is a shotgun. There is no date, so it is pre mid 1920s. It is a nice gun.

thanks, yes the left barrel is choked full, what from the marks tells you that? here is a pic of the barrels, it also says nitro with a mark on the side of each barrel at the wood line

              kennedy 759,
The crown W mark on the left barrel tells us it is choked but does not show the amount of constriction. Since the right barrel doesn't have the crown W stamp, it is not choked (is cylinder bore).

Does having a choke in one barrel and not in the other a regular practice or is it a bit odd, or a special order?

It was a common feature of German shotguns before WW1, but later both barrels got some degree of choke.

thanks everyone for your help, every time I get into something new, honda motorcycles, vw sandrails, mosin nagants, high standard pistol etc, I am always lucky to find a few guys that have been there, done that, that share their knowledge with us new guys, I hope I can pay it forward. thanks

I bought a Kerner O/U double rifle 8X57JR with horn trigger guard , box lock and bullet trap It is marked Forum on the barrels meaning that there was another set of barrels missing. It has a bullet trap and claw mounts . I have waiting 2 years for the raw claws from Germany so I can mount a scope. Beautiful wood and engraving
My gunsmith measured the bore and told me it is a JRS .323 bore but my claws have not arrived from Germany so I will use he open sights
