  • 9.5x57 brass

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally. I was expecting a long process to make 9.5x57 from 30-06. As it turned out my 9.3x53 Swiss is a set of CH4D dies and the long tapered expander fits the CH4D 9.5x57 dies, the 9.3 expander small end is about .284 so trim the 30-06 to length, one pass over the 9.3 expander, install 9.5 expander set the shoulder back until the bolt will just close, & anneal. Thanks to a Foster drill press trimmer I paid $15 for 40 years ago, the whole process to form took about 3 hours for 20 cases.

    Mike,
Good for you, the trick is to design the process around the equipment you have, with as few steps as possible. This is precisely what you did and I know you will enjoy the project a lot.

Weather was nice Wednesday, took the 1910 M-S to the range. I was expecting some recoil, but not what I got. 7 pound rifle Speer 235 gr, 55 gr WW748.
Brutal shooting from the bench. Should be tolerable offhand. Found some Hornaday 270 gr round nose, not sure I want to load any.

Now you have the process down. Load up some 270 grain, pet a PAST recoil shoulder pad and start developing some loads.

          Mike,
Raise the forearm rest so you are sitting straight up, hold the forearm in your hand, and pull the rifle hard into your shoulder and it won't hurt. The above suggestion to get a PAST has merit too.

Some days are just better than others, every week or so I search the net for a Mannlicher 1910 magazine. I was about to try grinding on a 8x56 magazine. Today a newly listed 1910 magazine on eBay, made an offer, it was accepted. I am a very happy Mannlicher owner.
