I am looking at a engraved AKAH drilling with gold inlays carved and checkered stock, claw mounts 16 barrels with AKAH on the butt plate. Did Sauer or Merkel make these guns. It looks high quality and probably pre war
thanks
AKAH (Albrech Kind) was/is a large supply house that sold items manufactured by various firms. From the description alone the actual maker cannot be determined. However, there is a pretty good chance a check of the markings, inside, may reveal the maker if it was made prewar. Sauer often marked guns "made for the trade" with inhouse quality marks and/or their "wild man" mark, and Merkel often marked theirs with their GM logo. Post war, both factories were taken over by the communists under the same supervision. The Sauer name survived but their guns were different.
