  • A Belgian Garden Gun

Interesting little thing I picked up yesterday at the Labelle, FL. show.

There are no makers marks nor proof marks nor caliber designations that I can see. The Liege marks are present. I've removed the action and examined it fairly thoroughly. It is "over-under with both barrels being rimfire. The chamber of the upper barrel is .37" deep, too short for a .22 short. The lower barrel seems to be chambered for a 9mm rimfire.

It appears that there is no selection as to which barrel is fired so that you would load, presumably, the barrel that you want to use and leave the other unloaded.

The sights appear to me to be a bit of overkill given the presumed range and use of this gun. The rear sight can be adjusted for windage and elevation and the front sight is adjustable for windage.

It is very pleasing to the eye with a fine wood to metal fitting. Altogether a pleasing little thing. IMG_0437.JPG IMG_0434.JPG IMG_0432.JPG IMG_0433.JPG IMG_0435.JPG

    EdinFlorida,
You might try 22CB caps in the 22(likely 6mm) barrel and 9mm shot cartridges are available. I noted that you didn't say if the 9mm barrel is rifled or smooth. Many, if not most, 9mm smooth bores are actually proofed for a single projectile(bullet), when proofed, however I don't know if 9mm RF bulleted ammo is currently available.

Hi Mike, hope you are well.

I tried some of my BB Caps. They are a tad old and have an ignition problem. I need to go into the ammo dump and find more.

      The 9mm barrel is smoothbore.
Here is a picture of it next to my single shot. I guess the cottage industry was not dissimilar from what when on in the middle ages where villages/famlies would specialize in hilt making or whatever.

        EdinFlorida,
You should be able to find fresh CB caps from whoever in your area deals in CCI brand ammo.

Midwayusa.com has both the 9mm flobert shot shells you're looking for and 22 long CB CCI ammo. Not sure if the long ones will work for your chamber length. I bought my son a JG Anshutz 9mm flobert bolt action shotgun and it's his favorite gun- quiet, no recoil, and so little power that the shot ends up inside aluminum cans when shot from 15 yards. Makes his 20 gauge look like a cannon! Enjoy. That's a beautiful gun.

Hi. Thanks for the info. A .22 short wont chamber, the BB cap does. I think I have more, gotta look.

I saw this listing for some 6mm flobert cartridges on the 24hourcampfire. I'm not sure if they are the magic bullet, but the only garden gun I ever handled used those little floberts. If they are not for your gun, maybe some one else here might need them.

Most of these guns are actually proofed as 6mm, we just use 22s in them because they are so close to 6mm and usually prove satisfactory. If you can, get them.
