  • Bore deposits

I have an Austrian Alexander Henry with very hard bore fouling, it has been impervious to every cleaning solution I have tried. Did some of the powders used in Austria before WW2 contain metal? Any suggestions appreciated. I don’t believe the fouling is lead.
    Thanks Mike

I wonder if repeated soaking with Kroil would help.

            Hello

            Mike,
I have tried again. Apparently I've sent it as a Visitor Message and not a PM. This forum is easily more annoying than me, any day of the week. Hope it arrives this time. Corrected some spelling mistakes as well.

            Kind regards
            Peter

Those look more like pits from corrosive priming than deposits to me

I would agree, except these areas are raised not pits. Could it be corrosion lifting the barrel metal? I hope not, but I don’t know.

It looks like corrosion to me also. If soaking with penetrating oil and a good scrubbing with a bronze bristle brush and steel wool doesn't remove it, it might take abrasives ( fire lapping) to do it.

I have kroil ordered. Will let it set in the bore a day or so then scrub, if that doesn’t work, I will ask for information on fire lapping.

I don't have a bore scope so am basically ignorant of how they look and especially when a picture is taken so I'll shut up and see what you learn. However, it does look like pitting in the picture, no?

I won’t shoot this rifle much, but I would like to clean up the bore. I just got the bore scope a few days ago. I checked the bore on my Meister schuetzen and was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was. I checked the bore on my Mauser B sporter that I have experienced copper fouling and found pitting. I still plan on using it to hunt with. I am going to the range in Kansas City Friday, taking 2 schuetzen rifles and plan on spending the day enjoying myself. My offhand needs a lot of work.
