Went to the range yesterday. I noticed there appears to be an insert on the left side of the action. Was the factory stock inleted for a side mount scope adapter like the Griffith & Howe and a filler installed if that type of mount not used? My reloads are going to need work. I would like to find factory 243 ammo, but so far, no luck.

Yes, Mike. Allthe post-1952 Mannlicher – Schoenauers, models GK, MC and MCA had such a dummy sideplate. Here is the description from the 1964 Shooter’s Bible.
