  • AGA aperture sight now in a few pieces

I went and did it. Real novice bungle, I‘m sure.

    I h
ave a Rigby Mauser stalking rifle in 7 x 57 mm with an AGA aperture sight on the cocking piece. Attempting to adjust for elevation, instead of going “two-blocked”, or stopping, while turning it to the right, it unthreaded, and I end-up with a disassembled mechanism and a couple of minute pieces in my hand.

I can not figure out the re-assembly; just don't know when pressing something into place may strip threads. .

Any suggestion.? I do not have a camera but here's a photo of a similar AGA sight I found online.

    stumpstalker,
If you don't think you can put it back together, you likely can't. I suggest you secure all the parts in one container and take it to someone you have confidence in, to reassemble it. I have found, over the years that people that re-blue guns for a living are generally very experienced at disassembling and reassembling guns.

From the image, it looks similar to an older Lyman or Marbles tang sight -- and I believe there are videos of "how to" disassemble/assemble those online, maybe even a PDF (put "pdf" into your search phrase). If it were mine, I'd watch a few of those to get the basic ideas and steps on what's needed to reassemble it.

Just take your time, don't force or break anything -- and you might just get it done.

      Viel Glueck!

Here is a post from the Leverguns Forum (yet another gun-related hobby/affliction of mine) that shows Marbles Tang Sight Disassembly (click here for link) that includes some good images -- this might help give you some ideas.
