Got a new Merkel in, and a couple of others recently. I received a reply back from Merkel with the build card and have some questions. I?ve gone through and understand most of it to a fair degree but other parts I can?t decipher the font and or the meaning. It has a neat rear flip sight on it with a fine notch and a large U for snap shots, can anyone decipher the name of this sight as it is listed? It?s neat to see the direct correlation on the build card to the weapon. The Louis Kelber barrels for instance as listed on the card and marked on the chamber. Looking forward to any help with that. Looks a lot like the one I just bought. They are nice. Mine is an 8 X 60R Magnum. I'm sorry I can't help you with anything.

I don't know when C/Karl G?nther took over the Triebel establishment. Karl G?nther is still listed in the Bavarian Handelsregister in 1950. At Annastra?e 32, Augsburg. Flintenkalle's lexikon seems to suggest G?nther may have taken over in 1931.

Is there a date code marking on the combo? The BBF looks to be in great condition.

EDIT: now saw the date on the Merkel card. Sorry.

Thank you Gentlemen for the insight, an translations, this is very much appreciated! I?ve been on the lookout for a Hensoldt, does anyone know a rough cutoff point for post 1945 serial numbers on these scopes by chance?

There is no clear cut in the serial number range of Hensoldt optics known, as they apparently numbered all their products in the same range. But in the 1950s their Dialytan series of scopes was replaced by the Diasta (26 mm steel tube) and Diatal (alloy tube with rib) models, entirely different designs. Those 4x Dural-Dialytan scopes can often been found for under $ 120.- here in Germany. Just missed one on egun the other day. It went for Euro 36.50. The steel tube Dialytans are often much more expensive, $ 300.- and up, as they were used and are often offered as ?WW2 sniper scopes?. That?s the cheap part. You must have fitted claw mounts to your bases too, a tedious and expensive hand fitting job rarely masteredby American gunsmiths.

Thank you for the info Axel. I actually already have a set of Recknagel rings fitted to this rifle, so I can get some kind of optic on it at least. They won?t work for the Dural of course though. Merry Christmas everyone.
