  • Anyone into Mannlichers?

I found this in a gun shop about 15 years ago. When I asked to see it, the shop owner said, and I remember this clearly, "it's a decorator...you can't get ammo for it". Well, I immediately fell in love with it and it came home with me for a decorator price.

It's 8x60, and I have successfully found ammo.... Shoots like a dream...

Yes, I am! I own about a dozen Mannlichers, Mannlicher-Schoenauers and Mannlicher-Haenels. Here is a photo of my Mannlicher-Schoenauers, a M1925 in 8x60 Magnum/S too with one of his 60+ victims, a young roebuck that had to be removed from the population:

And my M1910 in 9.5x57 M-Sch aka .375 Rimless Nitro Express:

I have come to greatly admire them and am definitely in the market for a full stock carbine....something old with all the M/S bells and whistles and chambered in one of those cartridges you can't get ammo for.

        kcordell,
Don't limit yourself to purchased ammo. The 8x60 is a very good cartridge that is very easy to load for, components are easy to find, and with proper adjustment you can use standard 8x57 dies.

          Love 'em...

In certain ways I think the pre-war Mannlicher-Schoenauers are the standard by which all other production rifles must be compared...

Here are mine, a 1924 Sequoia and a 1903 with factory Oigee scope. Interestingly, both appear in the A&F records.

            My Mannlicher

I too have a Mannlicher. It's a Model 1903 full-length stocked carbine. The rear sight has been ground down some so that a tang mounted peep could be Used. Even with my old eyes I can achieve 2-2.5 inch groups with it. So far I've used it to kill two deer.

Hmm...Malco, is that pronghorn from Wyoming?

Due north in my home state of Montana...

I shot it from the top of the cone in the background.
