Help identifying an Imman Meffert, Suhl target pistol

Any help identifying this pistol and a general value would be greatly appreciated! Breech block opens by lifting a lever that is part of the grip backstrap. It has a tiny bead inside the cresent of the front sight that is broke off, but I have the bead. Any recommendations on a smith to repair it?

I suspect Larry Schuknecht at Dutchman Wood Works can either repair the front sight or make a new one. If you send it to him to repair, he can also make a chamber cast and ID the cartridge. As far as value is concerned, I don't estimate the value of someone else's gun, that I don't have "in hand". I will say, however, that it seems very nice and would be proud to own it.

Aaron, first I must say that is a very nice pistol. I have concentrated on collecting rifles but this one pistol I would have not passed up . If you look in the GGCA Der Waffenschmied 48 Journal on German , Austrian & Swiss target Pistols, available from the GGCA, on page 35 you will find your pistol. It says it is a system Scheibenpistole designed by Joseph Schulhof of Vienna in 1880. It was made by several makers including Meffert with small changes made by all the makers. The one in the Journal is in 22LR. I would think the earlier guns were made in black powder cartridges until the 22 LR took over as the popular round for target pistols. I can?t help you on the value of the pistol as I said I have concentrated only on long guns. I also only go by what sells at auction as it is usually better for a buyer than buying from other collectors or gun dealers. You might want to google a search for German, Austrian target pistol for sale and see what comes up that has sold at auction over the last couple of years. Look at the images listed at the top of the page and Scroll down . you will get an idea of what a diversity of pistol systems and designs were made. Don?t go to a dealer down the road and ask for a value. They have no idea and would mislead you likely.

Leatherman, I found the book and have ordered it. I have briefly tried to find some auctions and more info online, but I do not think I am searching with the right words. It seems this utilized a bottle necked or tapered cartridge with the small bore and larger chamber. I look forward to having the chamber cast.
