Just when I was about 3/4 done installing my short Krieghoff "Semper Insert Barrel" (Einstecklauf) into my Drilling, I finally found images of their fitting and sighting-in instructions. I'd seen the images of those before on another website, but they were always clouded by that very annoying "Photo Bucket" logo. Yesterday, somehow I clicked on an image differently and that opened it up in a new tab -- and voila! There it was, with no logo pasted across it. So then I saved all 5 pages of the instructions as separate jpg images, then pasted them all into Powerpoint as a pptx slideshow, and then finally saved that as a PDF file .
Turns out I was on the right path with the installation, but a few gems in the instructions will help me with the final fitting and especially the critical sighting-in task.
The instructions say "Not to file" on the two upper adjusting lugs (located at 10:00 and 2:00) and to just buy lugs of different heights. Well, that's not likely to happen, as the U.S. sales office for Krieghoff couldn't even supply me with the instructions; so I seriously doubt they would have any parts for sale. My insert was aiming down at the shotgun's barrel right at the muzzle, so I had to carefully remove some metal from the two upper lugs in order to gain some up elevation. That also allows me to now slide one lug all the way back towards the action with the other forward, to get maximum windage (if needed). Adjusting the position of both lugs is how you adjust for elevation, and after some judicious filing, mine will now allow for a reasonable amount of up/down and left/right adjustments.
I plan to mark the "tabs" that the lugs slide to/fro on, which will give me some reference points to use when sighting it in. I look forward to finding out how well it works whenever I can get back to the range, but I still have to do a little work on the Drilling's stock first (repairing a split at the wrist).
Anyway, if anyone wants a PDF of the Semper Barrel Insert instructions for the Kreighoff Einstecklauf, just send me a PM and include your email address, as the file is too large to upload here.
Be well -- and stay safe.
