  • Heinrich Scherping Rifle

    Hi all,

Have not been on the forum for a long while....been great catching up on news and posts.

Per the attached pic a Heinrich Scherping bolt action. I know there is no substitute for doing a chamber cast...ugggg.... but does 6.9 typically denote a 7x57?

    Thanks all...

    k,
Normally a 7mm rifle would have a 7mm bore ( and 7.2mm groove diameter), but the way they were measured, it's not that surprising that one might be marked 6.9mm. That just means that a 6.9mm plug gauge would enter the bore while a 7.0mm would not. If it were only a little "tight" at 6.99mm. the 7.0 mm gauge would not enter, while a 6.9 would. You could "slug" the bore, easier than making a chamber cast. If it "slugs" close to .284", it is a 7mm barrel.
