    GGCA Folks,

Corresponding with Brenneke USA, most recently this morning, the re-introduction of the 16gaX65mm "Classic" slugs is moving right along. The way things work is Brenneke USA will be shipping product to their distributors as soon as production is up and running. The timing for their "official" announcement and how they will be doing this is something that we'll have to just see. As somewhat of a measure as to when this is going to happen I was told that their largest distributor has already placed an order for the new cartridges and this distributor's largest mail order customer (out of Texas) has placed an order with them so this re-introduction thing is going to happen and it isn't far off. I am curious as heck to see how these things are going to shoot in my combination guns and I'm trying not to jump out of my hide in anticipation. I know … this patience thing is tough.

    Regards,

    Mark

I also look forward to testing them in my drilling. Please advise when they are in country.

Are these being made in Germany or the US??

      Thanks for the update!

Folks, here are the only specifics on the 16/65.

        3/4 oz slug, Velocity ft/sec 1,350, Energy 1,773 ft/lbs.

Looks like a July date for availability.

This is all of the information I have at this time

          ohiochuck,

The slug cartridges are being produced in the United States using components shipped in from Europe.

          kcordell,

Sounds like you have found a customer of one of Brenneke USA's distributors. Your dealer telling you July for availability sounds right as the timeframe that I was given for product being shipped to the distributors was "sometime in June".

I have to figure that many of our members are as curious as I am to see how these things are going to shoot in our combination guns. I'm used to playing around with regulating double rifles and a double rifle drilling where one can develop loads to dial in groups between the two barrels but how close a factory slug will group to the rifle barrel or barrels of some of our combination guns is something I'm waiting to see. It's just an assumption on my part but with the original Brenneke slug having been developed in 1898 I have to think that ever since, the German gunmakers have been taking into consideration the possibility of slugs being used in their combination guns when the barrels were being joined; looks like we'll be finding that out for ourselves rather soon.

Mark, hey thanks for the data. I am talking directly to brenneke. I have been pleading with them for years for 16/65 and 12/65 slug ammo. I am happy about the 16/65.

Does anyone have concern shooting this ammo in a solid excellent condition prewar drilling? I read mixed concerns.

              kcordell,

Brenneke USA's "Customer Service" or their stateside manufacturing rep?

Anyway, the original slugs were designed specifically for guns with tight chokes, thus the ribs. This ribbing allows the soft lead to conform to the minor choke diameter without damaging the barrel/rib solder joints. Such and the inherent stability of the slug, by way of design, is what makes them as accurate as they are said to be. There is a question as to how tight "tight" is though. We'll have to see if Brenneke will note a restriction limit.

The main reason for their accuracy is that the wads are attached to the slug, which makes it fly "point on".

Yep, the wad attached to the back of the slug gave it the "weight-forward design" that helped stabilize the projectile, a clever idea for sure.

Does anyone have any updates on this? Last I heard a few weeks ago was expected delays due to powder shortages....

Any updates on the Brennekes? Also, I had a call from a gent who would like some but would also like to find some ready-made 8x57Rs. He says he has the S bore and is not a reloader. The usual suspects are out of them. Anyone? Büchsemann? Büchsemann?

                          Gents,

I haven't heard anything from Brenneke since June 27th when in part of a response I read:

"However, we hope to have the next container in the U.S. by mid or end of August so that we will still be able to sell the 16 GA loads this fiscal year."

It’s true it seems that great minds think alike as without seeing what was being said on the forum (GGCA) I e-mailed my contact at Brenneke USA yesterday inquiring about an update. Thus far I haven't seen a response. I, like many others I'm sure, would like to use the 2 1/2" 16 ga slugs for hunting this fall/winter. I still have my fingers crossed that Brenneke will come through.

I forgot to respond to the 8X57JRS dilemma. Other than Midway USA having "Hollow Points" available it does appear that the usual bunch is "out of stock"; with that I suppose it depends on what they are needed for (varmints, punching holes in paper or hunting). I suppose if any of our members that reload are near abouts to the gentlemen needing them perhaps a deal can be worked out.

                              Jon(Germanguns 1234),
Have him contact GAD Custom Cartridges (WWW.gadcustomcartridges.com). They can help him, I'm sure. There are others, but this one has an easy to find website.

I just got an update. It appears that the 65mm Brenneke slugs will be available early November. I am very happy with this news. I was also informed that they are concerned that drilling/cape owners with full chokes may consider using them in their guns. From what I am told, they are recommending Mod or larger for use. This warning will not be posted on this box. Also, its noted they are 1oz loads.

I am very excited at this news.
