Hi everyone. I primarily shoot muzzleloaders and now muzzleloading shot guns.

I recently acquired an old shot gun double barrel side by side. The name engraved in silver along the top of the barrels is Hier Anchutz & Suns in Suhl. Seems to be in pretty good shape and could be shot. I cannot find any information on this gun. I have pictures of the gun on one of my other computersl that I can post later.

    Thanks

Welcome sir!! From your description I assume the gun is a muzzleloader? They are truly great fun for both matches and hunting. I've been using them myself since '75 or '76. By all means post up pictures.

        Pictures of Anschutz shot gun

        Hi Guys:

Hopefully I have attached pictures of the shot gun. It is a double 20 gauge black powder shot gun. I broke one of the hammers, however, it has been repaired. I did shoot it last weekend and it still shoots like a charm. I want to know more information on the gun. As far as I can find Anschutz didn't make shot guns. So any information would be appreciated.

"Anschütz" is an old and frequent name in the Thuringian area of Suhl and Zella-Mehlis. In the period 1860 to 1945, the time I am most interested in, we have no less than 86 gunsmithes named "Anschütz" listed so far, but no "Hier(onymus?) Anschütz & Sohn in Suhl", sorry. The riflemakers (Julius Gottfried) JG Anschuetz, cib in Ulm, and Udo A. are but two of them. Most of those 86 Anschützes lived in Zella-Mehlis. Your shotgun is quite interesting as it is of very unusual design with the very wide top tang, covering the small of the locks to the locks. I will try to get more information on Hier.A.

            Another picture of the barrels.

I found another picture of the barrels with the inscription on the top. Hopefully this will show up. 000_0003.jpg
