  • Drilling Questions?

    I am considering one of two drillings. Both are 16 X 16 X 8X57JR.
My questions are: how much difference does or might a frosted rifle barrel make-accuracy, etc?
One has a small hairline crack on one side of the stock just behind the action/receiver. Is this a concern? The barrels on this one are bright and clean.
    Both are nicely engraved.
    Thanks for any responses.
    Jim

Too tough of a question for me. You had better get them both. Of course, a cracked stock is relatively easy to make like new.

      Jim,
Just pick the one you like the best, like Jon said, the stock repair should be easy.Your description of the barrel as "frosted", seems that it is not too bad, and likely to be ok with jacketed bullets. If you have them "in hand" to compare, be sure the ribs are all tight, and there is no crack in the reciever( check at watertable/standing breech),hammerless is preferred over hammer, and top lever over underlever.A known name is preferred over no name or only dealers name. One might handle better than the other, it would be preferred. You are lucky to be able to choose between two drillings. Also, it will be important to be able to mount a scope later. Good luck.
