What I find "legend" is the holes in the bucket your toting of post WWII parts sourcing analysis. Many of the post WWII examples up to say 1949, wear the Krupp 3 Ringe steel stamp(they are others much later so either steel or tubes were stored). So was Krupp making 3 Ringe Stahl post WWII or were the mechanic haphazardly apply the 3 Ringe stamp to their wares - more than likely not. Up till the time that Otto Reif left - circa 1948(& about the time you arrived on the scene) or at least by 1952-run out of town on rail, he was a shadowy figure racing Simson cars from the time Simson was making rubber baby buggy bumpers till he was King for a day post WWII, most of the components are pre-WWII or from pre-WWII raw materials. From that point on to the aire of rebellion/revolt of say 1953, the quality of the raw materials for components were either substandard or took a dive & Russia was forced to supply the 4 Ringe Lauf-Stahl S.G.1 50A(1953-1955 origins??), which later was 50AR and for the most part, GDR Merkels & other upper rung offerings were of the chrome-nickel steel 30CrN2МF (Böhler Blitz analog). Your production numbers seem to indicate this also. Let's hear some fact & please don't being your paragraph with "Oh Raimey...."

It would seem the reparations examples 1st wore the stamp on the standing breech then it migrated to the aft lug - I believe this one is 1948. Centered around Sauer, there would either be a Modell Nr. or a reparations stamp on the aft lug.

    Cheers,
