  • Ludwig-Bayerl over under shotgun over 7x57

I am trying to find out some information concerning a ludwig-bayerl shotgun I recently discovered packed away by my father.
I will post pictures later but other than a catalogue for sale on the internet there is nothing regarding this manufacturer.
    Any information would be appreciated.

It is likely that the name on your gun is a dealer's name, not the manufacturer's. It was common for manufacturers to supply guns to "the trade", which were marked with a dealers name. This is similar to Sears name being placed on guns made by Winchester,Marlin,or others. When you post pictures, be sure to to post clear pictures of all proof marks as well as any other markings on the barrels, and especially if there is any kind of logo on the breech face or anywhere else on the reciever. There are other people on this forum that are well versed in these markings.

Ludwig Bayerl had a shop in Regensberg on Wahlenstrasse from 1911 until after WWII. He was a gun maker and was a Hofbuechsenmacher to Prince Albert of Thun and Praxis. He also held a patent on Zimmerstutzen. In 1910, he put out a catalog in both English and German.

Thanks much... I am waiting to get good pictures to upload no sense in posting poor quality. There are a couple of other names on the barrell along with the proof marks.
