  • A Fred Adolph Rfile

I thought you folks might like to see a Fred Adolph rifle made for the son of L.C. Smith.

Thanks for the images Michael. Do you know who did the engraving? Smith certainly had a peculiar way of offering praise.

      Cheers,
      Roger

        Michael,

Thank you for posting the pictures, I'd like to see more. As to the letter, I think Roger was being kind. To me it reads as if Smith had been tipping a few prior and probably during his dictating of the letter to someone in better shape to manage the keys of the typewriter.

Sorry, I have no idea who engraved the rifle. I believe that it was done in Germany and not in the USA.

A few other views of the rifle.

It's a 30-06 by the way, something I seem to always forget to post and people want to know.

The rear cocking piece sight is a Lyman 103.

The rifle was finished in the white and has never been blued.

Thanks for the additional images Michael. The engraving was either done in Austria or Germany or by someone who was trained there. Like most things Germanic, there is probably a folk tale behind the Diana image with the bruins.

Many thanks Hendrik! You are the only person I know that can look at unsigned German gun engraving and know who did it. Is this gun in your archive or do you know who the engraver is by the style?

Vielen Dank Hendrik!

                      Roger

Thanks Herdrik for the information on the engraver. I do not have any pictures of the proof marks but do have notes. 2/24 (February 1924) 7.6mm Gussstahl Krupp Essen. There are two (2) K's in a diamonds and "B" with a crown over it.
