  • Einstecklaufs

This comes under the heading of "one of those things I wasn't looking for". I bumped into this einstecklauf on gunbroker and am curious about them. The gentleman says they are accurate, I can only assume he is correct, yes? Also, are they really compatible with all drillings, including hammer drillings? And, lastly, what is a fair price for one?

    Thanks!

    Vic

I suppose I should link to it....

    Vic,
I use a 22mag in one of my drillings and 22lr in another one. They are very useful, in my humble opinion. I have taken hare, racoon, fox, and tree rat with them.I accidently took a deer with one(statute of limitations has long played out), which proves bullet placement is the most important thing. Simson Ltd recently had some for sale, as I recall for somewhere around $280.I may be wrong on the price, but not much. You will have to file a notch in the extractor (for a locator pin) and flatten a section of the shotgun rimrecess for a seat for the headspace adj.screw. For a good bit more money, you can buy a full length one adjustable at the muzzle, in some pretty impressive calibers ( over $1000).

Thanks Mike. Then from what you're saying this Kreighoff isn't out of line? Being Krieghoff and what I've seen of them over the years I assume there are no quality issues.

Which extractor, the one on the drilling or the one on the einstecklauf? And I'm not certain I understand the flattening a secton of the shotgun rim recess. At least no more than half way. Will it be obvious if I acquire one?

Oh, and I have seen pictures of some of those full length einstecklaufs. I was impressed.

      Thanks again.

        Vic,
The extractor on the drilling is the one that has to be notched to accept the locator pin on the EL.The shotgun rim recess has a small radius at the outside edge. When a German gunsmith installs one he usually uses a fixture that duplicates the rear of an EL(ie no barrel).Instead of the Headspace screwhead(?) the fixture has a piloted cutter that removes the radius where the screwhead fits, to make a seat for it. Since the EL doesn't come with the fixture, you will have to do it another way. Instructions are included with the EL for sale, they will be clearer than this description. Are you confused enough yet? It would be better if I had pictures to show. No, the Krieghof is not out of line.

Thank you again Mike. The extractor cut I understand now and I have a better idea of the cut for the screwhead on the EL. Kind of a locating notch....sorta?

            Vic,
It's to provide a good seat for the Screwhead that sets headspace, the best I can tell.

              Hey Mike..

As luck would have it I just came across a picture of an EL installed. I see exactly what you're talking about. Thanks again

                Vic,
I ran across one of the ELs Simpson Ltd. had (still has one). It is not $280 as I thought, it is $295. Not much difference, but closer to the price you found. If you are interested,it is item M3939, under "other items", it is 22mag for 12ga, made by Lothar Walther.

                  Mike,

Does an El have to be made for a specific chamber length or will a 16 ga. EL fit in a 70mm or 65mm chamber?

                  Thanks,
                  Roger

Roger, I asked that same question of the seller and was told they would fit either chamber. I would feel more confident if Mike or one of the other fella's who use them would weigh in.

As far as I know they will fit either chamber, they don't headspace on the end,but rather on the rim, so there is no need to be chamber length,
