I just bought a nice Mauser-action 9x57 rifle of high quality that had a claw-mount scope system. However the scope and rings are gone...just the bases remain. Where can I buy a set of rings, "in the white", that I can fit and install myself? NECG does not list anything. It doesn't matter to me whether they are 1" or 30mm since I haven't bought a scope yet.

Rick,
EAW has a set to replace lost clawmount rings with a "swingmount"system. The plate for the front ring, replaces the clawmount plate. The rear base is fit a couple different ways, depending on the desires of the owner. Swing mounts are less trouble, because you don't have to mount the scope so high, to give room to tip the scope. On the other hand, the bolt handles on these rifles are not intended for low scope mounts. You can use a different bolt body and keep the original, but this might not give enough room w/o modifying the stock. EAW has a website,as I recall it is www.eaw.de or either www.ernstapelwurzburg.de. If you can't find the site, let me know and I will check and verify the site. Once in the site, it takes a little looking to find the system in question. NECG deals in their products and I think they can order whatever they don't stock.

Rick,
I verified the website is www.eaw.de. Once on the site,go to "EAW online Cataloge", then to "Leaflets in English", then to the leaflet "EAW SEM-SM E. pdf". I verified that NECG is EAW's only rep in the US. Only as a matter of interest, when you look at their building on the homepage, at the top of the photo are two buildings in the old US housing area "Skyline". From 71-74 I lived in the one with the flat roof.

These guys will install a set on a gun or on existing bases
http://www.clawmounts.com/
There also was a guy out west, Lee Arms I think,I bought a nice engraved mauser sporter from him years ago he would do it too.

Contact Champlin Arms. They install the rings but might sell you a set.

you could try ebay Germany (ebay.de) and look for
'suhler montage' or 'suhler einhakmontage'
they come up fairly regularly.
Only the top parts (on the scope) though; the 'feet' (parts on the gun) are rare - but you seem to have those.
Rings are unusual with these mounts.
usually the scope has a 'rail' to which these parts are fitted.
Your gunsmith can reseat the mounts if necessary to fit the 'feet' on your gun.
there is an older Zeiss scope with mounts on ebay.de at the moment
# 321021665135
if you want to have a look
I have also copied the pic here to give you an idea of what I am talking about.
edit: check the level of the 'feet' on your gun - are they level or is one of them higher than the other?
these mounts can be tricky on diff. guns
There are diff. height rear parts to adjust the level.
