    I found Sellier and Bellot sells 8x57 JR, 8x57 JS and 8x57 JRS. Are any of these compatible with 8x57 IR?

      This might help -- the "IR" you mention is the same as "JR", as I guess in the early 1900s the I & J in Deutsche were the same letter, so "J" gets interpreted as "I" for infantry.

      Edited to add -- Just found this in my Drilling notes:

      Up to 1939, there was a single letter in German between H and K. Whether we call it an I or a J is not meaningful; it was one letter and was pronounced like our "Y" or "I" since there is no "J" (as in "John") sound in German. ("Jung" is pronounced "yoong"; "in" is pronounced like "een".)
