  • Delightful piece of mail

Yesterday, Aug. 27th, I received my first issue of Der Waffenschmied. I was excited, impressed and finally pleased as I browsed through the issue before sitting down and enjoying the articles. As Mr. Ford had apprised me it was on combination guns. I thoroughly enjoyed every article and the fine photography. How often does it come out and what is the translation of "Der Waffenschmied"?

I do have one question. It has been mentioned in other threads that past issues of Waidmansheil and Der Waffenschmied are available. I didn't see anything in either publication or on the web site about where or how to acquire them. How is that done? I would like to purchase several back issues.

    Vic,

It's great to hear that you have received and are enjoying your first "Der Waffenschmied"; I think it's a real informative piece as are most. Jon Spencer and I were talking about doing some sort of special advertising for this issue just this morning. I was under the impression that there is a place on our website where one can purchase such issues, now I'll have to go back and check. I know the website is still a work in progress. One way of ordering is contacting the GGCA via "Contact Us" in the menu tabs. I believe Jon is the guy taking the initial inquiries.

PS - Jon will be better at explaining what "Der Waffenschmied" means than me.

      Vic,
Most people think "Der Waffenschmied" means "The Gunsmith",but it really means "The Weapon Smith". "Waffenschmied" comes from the times that the "weapons" were edged or "cold" weapons(kaltwaffen). The famous stature in Suhl (shown in the Banner of Der Waffenschmied) actually shows a waffenschmied making a sword.A gunsmith is actually called a Buechsenmacher (literal translation-rifle maker).
The WAIDMANNSHEIL has a section called GGCA Reference Works for Sale, this is where you find the old issues. You might have to email Jon Spencer for old issues of WAIDMANNSHEIL.
The WAIDMANNSHEIL and DER WAFFENSCHMIED both come out on a somewhat irregular schedule.
