  • Gewehrfabrik Danzig scoped .22 rifle (Pics)

Sharing some pics of a pre-war German Gewehrfabrik Danzig scoped .22 rifle. The scope is an old single post Oigee scope marked "D.R.P. OIGEE Berlin Nr.915

    Very low serial #7.

The quick detachable see-thru scope mounts are serial numbered to the rifle.

Looking for any additional information on this old rifle from the members on this forum.

    Cheers!

The old state arsenal "Koenigliche Gewehrfabrik Danzig" = Royal (prussian) Rifle Factory in Danzig made about a million of Gewehr 98 and Karabiner 98 AZ military rifles through WW1, up to a thousand a day in 1917. After the end of the Great War, November 1918, they tried to convert to civilian production to save as many jobs as possible. In 1919 they made sporting rifles in 8x57 IS and some of these .22 rifles. In 1920, after the Versailles so – called "Peace Treaty" was signed at gunpoint, the allied disarmament commissions stopped all gunmaking. The Danzig factory was dismantled and the machines shipped to Radom, Poland, as reparations.
As nearly noone in Germany could afford a new sporting rifle, most of these guns were exported, many to Scandinavia.
These Danzig made .22 single shots were marked "Mod. II" on the receiver ring (covered by the scpe base on your rifle). The low serial numer dates it to early 1919, if not December 1918. The scope mount is a type developed and made by Danzig arsenal during WW1 for sniper use. Often called a "Berliner Montage" or "Reichswehrmontage", as it was used by the German 100 000 men army in the 1920s.
OIGEE stands for "Optische Industrie Gesellschaft", Berlin. D.R.P. = Deutsches Reichs – Patent stands for a patent OIGEE held. Nr. 915 is the serial number of that scope.
Despite being a quite ordinary, simple .22 single shot, these Danzig made rifles are very rare now, especially fitted like yours with a "Danzig" factory mount and a contemporary scope. It is of some historical importance as a witness of the struggles of the German arms industry just after the end of WW1.

Very interesting, to me unknown scope- as far as i see there is no elevation adjustment in the scope?
