  • Bavarian Pistol Set

I have recently acquired this beautiful cased set of sporting pistols by Johann Christoph Kuchenreuter of Bavaria. Very interesting set in extraordinary condition. I am hoping someone here can tell me more about them, or steer me to a good source of info. Thanks.

The Kuchenreuters are a Bavarian family, gunmakers since about 1640. A branch of the family is still active in Cham, Bavaria, with a website in German: http://www.kuchenreuter.de/
You find a family tree here: http://www.kuchenreuter.de/datei?datei_id=1
Your pistol set was apparently made by Johann Christoph Kuchenreuter, 1755 – 1818, of Steinweg, a Regensburg suburb. Gunmaker to the court of the Princes Thurn & Taxis. See pages 20 -22 of the family/company chronicle http://www.kuchenreuter.de/datei?datei_id=2

      Exquisite!!

It's a pair, not a set. A set would be more than two.

I love all the "do dads" with it, they took an awful lot of work also.

I have fancied the black powder arm for many years. Have been a Life member of the NMLRA since about '77. I have had friends in the past who had historical arms as this and have owned mostly reproductions of a few. The above is one of those exquisite examples. It would be fun to own some examples of those fine guns. Packy
