  • Christoph Funk - Suhl unusual configuration

Well, maybe not unusual to those who see a lot of custom Mausers. Recently bought this Mauser presented as 7mm Mauser. with post war Nickel scope. I was fascinated by the pop up tang mounted peep sight and the secondary trigger block safety, I have seen both in the past, but this is the first I have seen with both. Then when I took it down to clean found it to be a 7x64. I hope you all find this interesting

        Right up my alley, nice.

The "tang sight" I don't believe is actually an aperture sight in the sense those of us in the US think of them. Anyone please correct me if I err but, were they not intended and used more as a diopter to sharpen the open sights than as an actual "tang sight"?

A wonderful find. I truly love the marriage of wood and metal in these examples of fine teutonic engineering. Packy

            sharps4590,
That is my understanding of the use of this type sight also.

I also think you must be correct as it does nothing else and is not adjustable. But it is neat and when it is installed along with the secondary safety makes the tank very crowded.

I have what I've always called a stalking rifle that has such a diopter in the tang. I think it is adjustable for windage but not elevation....maybe it's the other way around, I forget. At any rate, with the open, barrel sight sighted in for my load the diopter isn't even close and I think the rear sight might have been changed sometime in the distant past. All I can see through the diopter is the back of the barrel sight. Can't see the front sight at all. Regardless, they are cool and if a fella can find the right load they would be a boon to old eyes!!
