    twt,
I still can't make out the markings. I would be happy to use my grandsons also, but one moved to Texas and his brother across the state, out of reach.

Me too, I can't still not make out the markings on the underside of the barrel. Try this: Post only the one important photo, the one on the top left, without trying to downsize it or combining with other photos.
But back to your 7x57 double flat top Mauser: You are very lucky, as the rifle is still mounted with the original Hensoldt, Wetzlar, "Zielklein" 2 ¾ x scope in the Mauser factory claw mount rings. Most such rifles now in the USA have lost their scopes and mounts on the way. The rifle even retains it's original front sight cover. As the rifle is of a rare type and is still complete, as it left the Oberndorf factory about 75 years ago, you are envied by all Mauser collectors. Such outfits are usually sold through "name" auction houses, not local gun- or pawn shops.

              twt,
While I still couldn't clearly read the markings, I believe the duty bullet is a 14.6 gram, steel jacketed one. I have already admitted to being computer illiterate so you may want to ignore this. I suggest you post a photo, then see if you can read the markings in the posting. If you can't read them, neither can we. You will need to take additional photos, with the camera "square" to the markings and watch the glare from the flash. It might help if you enhance the marks with chalk or something. As Axel said, one good one of the marks in your last post would likely be enough.

I am not one to be trying to tell anyone how to take pictures....I am absolutely abysmal at it. Seems I have to take 50 to get 1 good one. However, have you tried with your camera on the "macro" setting? If I remember correctly that setting is for getting closer and works pretty good for getting pics of the proofs?
