  • Question re Blaser BBF

Hey guys, I have, what I strongly suspect, is a Blaser ES67. It is configured 16ga over 5.6x50R. It has a claw mounted Hertel and Reuss 2.5-7 power scope and it shoots great.

I took a turkey with it this spring and a couple coyotes have felt its' sting as well. What I can't figure out though, is how to get the barrels off. Can anyone shed some light? I wonder if the hinge pin has to come out.

    Hi!
Read this to see if it helps. http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/pd...ons-Manual.pdf
About 20+ years ago I owned a Blaser BBF 12ga/.22 Hornet 800/77? Not sure of the correct model
The rifle was accurate and I foolishly traded it.

Thanks Jim but the new Blasers have a detachable barrel set like most shotguns. The ones like mine don’t come apart like that for some reason. I simply can not figure it out.

        Steve.
I've never owned a Blaser, but will help as best I can. The barrels were likely removed in installing the clawmount bases. Examine the slots in the hingepin covers(caps) closely, to see if they have been removed in the past. Don't expect any really obvious signs of damage, the gunsmith would have used a screwdriver especially ground to fit the caps especially. The only sign will likely be a very slight "turning" of the sharp edge at the corner of the slot. If there is any sign that the caps have been removed, you will likely have to remove the hinge pin to dismount the barrels. I recommend you only dismount them if absolutely necessary. If you must take the barrels off by removing the hinge pin, you will first have to make a screwdriver that fits the slot precisely, in width as well as thickness. Most such slots would be sawed require a straight blade driver. Some may have been filed with a knife edge file and require a knife edge blade. Such screwdrivers are notorious for slipping out of the slot and damaging the slot/head. Either type requires extreme care. You will not be able to find a common screwdriver that fits the slot, but you can save time and trouble by modifying a common blade to fit. Once the caps are removed, the hinge pin was installed from right to left, so should be removed from left to right. This would be common protocol, but since I was not there, I don't know that it was followed. Consequently, don't apply great force until you confirm it. Since both ends seem to be "capped", the hingepin might straight rather than tapered. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Mike. I think you are correct regarding the caps. Regardless, I don't "need" tp remove the barrel set at this point. I am choosing not to mess with it for now. Going by what I see on the internet, this model is fairly common in Europe but rare here. I have only spoken to one guy who has ever had one and he sold me the gun!

            Steve,
Blasers are good guns, and I like the 5.6x50R a lot. I load my 5.6x50R with 60gr. Nosler Partition bullets and it does a good job on Alabama Whitetails, which are likely smaller than yours.
