Beautiful gun, Jim. With two serial numbers on the action could it be that the present tubes are a replacement for the original tubes that had the smaller serial number? If so should there not be a crowd R also? I'm just wondering why two serial numbers.

      Peter K,
I too wondered why two numbers. Normally a second set of barrels would carry the same number as the action. If there were multiple barrels, they would all have this number( some makers would also note the number of barrel sets on the action and each barrel set would have it's own set number- in the order they were made). Anyway, if the second number was for replacement barrels, it would have been on the barrels, as well as the action. Maybe if it came from the "East Zone", it is some kind of registration or "club" number. My friend Walter Grass' father lived and hunted in the East Zone, before reunification, but could not keep his gun at home.

The Kreighoff drilling with game scene engraving was found to be the 9.3 X 72 rimmed. It is now sold.
        Thanks to all who helped.

          ohiochuck,
That is too bad, that would have been a good one for you to keep.

            Thanks Mike!
            I have a Merkel over under 200 series in 16b / 9.3X72R that has a Schmidt & Bender 1.5X6 scope.
I used it this past deer season (the first year we could use this straight walled cartridge) and was lucky to harvest the largest antler less deer I have ever harvested (no antlered deer would visit me during day light hours). JJ Perodeau mounted the scope with claw rings, opened the shot barrel somewhat and sighted the rifle at 55 yds with both rifle and Brenneke 16 b 2.5 inch slugs. I was very pleased with the accuracy. The large doe was harvested with the rifle but I am sure the slug would have produced a clean harvest as well.
