I have been contacted by a gunsmith who has a few Buffalo Horn tips that he wants to sell. I am getting all of them as I have a few guns in need of trigger guards and under levers. He bought these direct from India and got successfully mailed to him after trying to source them from the US and Ireland but could not find anything big enough or that would be able to be imported without being confiscated by Fish and Game at customs. I am interested in knowing if anyone has information on how the guild of horner's made the trigger guards. I am hoping there has been an article written or a book published with this information. I am familiar with how cow horn is boiled in beef lard to make it malleable to bend it to the desired shape so the grain in the horn flows along the length to give it strength just like a gunstock is made with the grain running through the length of the stock. But there are other tricks of the trade and means of finishing the horn that I am looking for.
