    W10085,
I see 26513 on both barrel and receiver, what is the other number?

4688 on the bottom of the barrel near the lug. It's also on the opposite side of the receiver from 26513. I didn't get a specific picture but it's the same number and same font and the barrel number.

Can you provide another image of the interlaced mark surmounted by a crown just about the 4000 ATM test stamps?

        Cheers,

          w10085,
There are often two serial numbers when the rifle or barreled action is made by one firm and finished or marketed by another. A case in point is one with a Mauser serial number 100 and a Rigby serial number 1088. Schillings are not my forte, but I would have thought they did the whole thing, and there should only be one number. Maybe Axel has the answer.

As Mike asks: I take 26513 on receiver and barrel as the V.C. Schilling serial number. 4688 on barrel only is probably an inventory number, Schilling factory internal. V.C.S. most likely bought in these "civilian", octagonal, ribbed barrels from specialized Suhl barrelmakers, just as most other gunmakers did.
I cannot add much to the dating. The rifle was proofed by the Suhl proofhouse 1894 to 1911, as the use of the Gauge number 172.28 = .300" for the bore/land diameter shows. The CROWN – crown/N marks indicate proof using the "4000 atm" special smokeless proof powder.

              Axel,
Do you have an opinion of why the 4688 is on the receiver on the opposite side from the 26513? I didn't see it, but w10085 reported it is there.
