  • Help Identifying Rifle

I recently purchased a very small, Warnant action rifle. It is chambered for a straight cased rimfire cartridge of a caliber consistent with the 6.3 marked on the underside of the action. I presumed it to be Belgian or German, but do not recognize the proof marks. No markings on the barrel flats or rib. Underside of barrel stamped P. Bisch??? in oval. Can anyone help identify the maker or cartridge?

    Thanks,
    Bob

I can offer no help with your question but I find that a very interesting little rifle. I suppose it is some sort of indoor gallery gun?

      Bob,

The proof marks are definitely Belgium and black powder. The one mark is the inspectors stamp usually a letter with a star above it. Looks like an "A" to me but I could be wrong. The other mark is "Le Perron" and on this rifle I believe was proof of breaching. Also, I could find a P. Bischi but no information beyond that. My best guess is it might possibly be a 6.5 Flobert rimfire. A chamber cast and bore slug would help you identify it better. More informed members will likely come in on this.

Interesting little rifle, good luck with it.

        The incomplete maker's stamp is P.BISCHOP / BREVETE (=patent), a Belgian, Liege gunmaker, about 1890 – 1910? See

Bischop had a 1902 patent for an action very similar to the Warnant action, scroll down. Apparently it covered a barrel sleeved into a separate breech piece.
Maybe your rifle is chambered for the long obsolete 7mm Flobert rimfire cartridge

Thanks for all the information. Without doing a cast, the chamber seems to be just over 7mm. I found one cartridge for sale. I will buy it and try it.
