Fred, you may need to turn a slight recess and radius the transition in the base of the shell for the flange on the shotgun primer. That could be what is holding it up. Thanks, Diz

I have thought of that and I think I have just the right tool to do it. However, my first alternative will be the brute force method and find a way to seat the primer with a press with a long handle.

A good friend always gave this advice: "don't force it, get a bigger hammer!".......

          Fred,
You should be able to grind a little "form tool" , just use the back end of an existing 1 /4" high speed tool. You could make a "D" bit reamer including the required radius, but that would be too much work, for just a couple cases.

            Fred, Mike, Diz,
You guys have all the fun playing with your lathes. I keep looking at the tiny lathes they sell up here at Princess Auto stores. ...and then reality sets in. I can't keep up with the projects I already have on my plate. I do like reading about people's solutions to make fodder for the older guns. Keep on posting and don't forget to post some pictures.
