  • bockbüchsflinte take down and trigger

Have just picked up a 1924 bockbüchsflinte I purchased a while back. I am in the process of stripping and cleaning it up and thought I'd better de-gunk the action. It struck me that it didn't seem to have a set trigger, but that the trigger had a degree of sprung forward movement. I wondered if it had a replacement trigger blade at some point and so had lost the set trigger function?

Anyway here's some pictures after stripping out 93 years of gunk:

The feather spring and bar labelled 1 and 2 are sat under the trigger and sear for the rifle barrel. This makes me think they have/had something to do with a set trigger? Opinions welcome!

The gun is marked Rudolf Hoffmann, Uezel, Hann. Chambered in the relatively scarce 8x58RS under 16g.

      jcf1,
It looks like a single set trigger, but there would normally be an adjust screw in the trigger, but I can't see any signs of one. A single set trigger works by pushing the trigger forward, until it sets(clicks). You might give it a try.

            jcf1,
I suggest you ask Axel or John Laborde then.

                jcf1,

I can't quite tell from the photo but are there stop screws in the sears? I don't see any indication of either a single or double set trigger but the engagement may be adjustable with stop screws. I admit that's a very poor guess on my part. I'd like to see it all together sometime too. Best of luck with it.

No stop screws as far as i can tell. I think the feather spring is just for anti-rattle so perhaps no set trigger.... Would be good to lighten it a bit though.

Its a lovely thing actually. Needed a lot of cosmetic TLC, but nothing major. Rear folding leaf sight needs some attention, and unfortunately no matching mounts for the SEM bases. Other than that, its got some great engraving and is very nicely put together.

Also looking at a sidelock from the same maker, BBF, same calibre. All I need now is my damn reloading dies!!!

jcf1, try CH4D for dies. They have them listed and could be on the shelf, otherwise I know they are backed up with work and it may be a wait. I thought Buffalo Arms might have brass but it's out of stock. If it's the case I am thinking of you can make it from 9.3 x 72 R pretty easy. Thanks, Diz
