    Leatherman,
Don't be disappointed that your rifle is not a 9.3x74R, 9x57R( also 9x57) is a fine cartridge. Today, we are too quick to compare the old cartridges to new ones; if they are compared to the ones they replaced, they will be seen as "barn burners". I have examples in my "pile" headstamped 9mm M88, which would have been before they started calling the military cartridge 7.9x57, or 8x57I. Wiederladen states it was introduced around the turn of the century. At this time, much less powerful cartridges were in common use. Foresters I hunted with in the 70s, talked about using 9x57s on drive hunts for Red Deer and Boar, and were complimentary of it.
