Hello to all. My name is Joe and I've been retired 10 years from a LEO career. Interest in German guns go way back. I have a Zimmerstutzen front loader that has been in the family for the last 60 years. It was one of my Dad`s favorite conversation pieces. As is common with them the rear sight was missing. When it passed to me I did a search and found one on Fleabay. Contacted ISS and bought the pellets, caps and targets. Finally after being a wall hanger all those years it was back in action. Having grown up shooting matches with a 22 target rifle as member of an NRA club I was truly amazed with the accuracy of the Zimmer. Wish I could have had it for some of those competitions. Recently acquired another one. This one is also a front loader 4mm but is not in working order. The cocking lever appears to not be engaging the hammer spring and the triggers will not set. Have searched but can find no information on the internals of one of these . I do a good bit of gunsmith work restoring old Winchesters and double guns but am hesitate to opening this one up without some idea of what to expect. If someone knows of a source for a schematic or has experience with them I would sure appreciate the information.
Other than the two Zimmers I have numerous original and custom mausers. Never one to pass up an odd ball caliber to reload for a 30 Newton and 7x61 Sharpe &Hart are among them. A combination 2 barrel set O/U built on a Merkel action 16/16 and 16 /270 Win is one of my favorites to hunt with. Glad to be part of the forum and hope I can add to my knowledge and be a contributor.
