  • Greetings from West Australia

Hi all, Laurie Preston is my name and I come from Broome in Western Australia.
I'm a new member and am interested in old German Shotguns by virtue of the fact that I own one and want to learn about it.
I inherited a 16gg shotgun from my father/ grandfather/ greatgrandfather that has been in my family since 1872 and I am wanting to learn a bit more about its history and provenance if anyone on the forum is able to assist.
I will post some photos when I get a camera working.
It has reverse-twisted Damascus barrels (both 3/4 choke I believe) with gold and silver inlay in the barrel and some minor engraving.
    Stock is Walnut burl
Cheek-plates are silver with one side engraved with a fox and a quail; and the other engraved with a Pointer and a pheasant - very ornate.
Hammers are rather large with silver engraved thumb-stamps - both are as strong and firm as the day they were made.
I still have the original two-piece cleaner/ramrod of walnut and brass but the original gun-case (which I can just remember as a young kid) has been lost over the years and I havent seen it for over 50 years (sadly).
Anyway, just saying g'day from WA and I will post some pics when I get a camera working and downloaded.
Good luck to all and I look forward to interacting with some of you as time goes by.
    Kind regards
    Loz from West Oz

      Thanks for the reply Mike,
One thing I completely forgot to mention is that the makers mark on the top of the barrel is "C.A.Fischer & Sohn - Luubeck Germany".
I have never taken the wooden piece off the bottom of the barrel to have a look for stamps and other marks but I will now I know.
      Cheers again
      Loz

Welcome Laurie! You've come to the right place I believe. If one of these fella's doesn't know they probably know where to find out and the first gentleman to welcome you is one of them!

            Hello

Below is a link to another C. A. Fischer weapon. Apparently he was Königlisch Swedische Hofbüchsenmacher (spelling?) that´s what it says on the rib. The gun in the link was given to Livrustkammaren by Gustaf V of Sweden. The "Tillverkare/Förmodad" means assumed manufacturer so I assume there´s no certainty that Fischer actually manufactured it. Scroll down and there´s another C. A. Fischer weapon (bottom left) and click on the image.

            Here´s a link to who Gustaf V was. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustaf_V_of_Sweden
