    Hello All:

My father has a German SXS that someone pawned to him in 1978. We have kept it in a closet in a silicone gun sock with our other guns. As my son has grown old enough to hunt/ shoot , he has taken a real interest in such things. in doing my research, the gun may have been made in the late 1800's by what appears to be " L. Brun(r) , Braunschweig" when I google this, it comes up with ' G.L. Rasch Bruanschweig' which has a very extensive and exciting history. Can any of you take a look at these photos and tell me if this is something of value or not? thanks Chuck BClick image for larger version. Sorry, but I can not open your links to the pictures. From your description your gun was at least retailed, if not made, by Louis Bruns, *May 25, 1843, + June 27, 1908, shop at Kuhstrasse 15, Brunswick (Braunschweig in German) In 1868 Bruns bought the business of H.L. Rasch, a branch of the Rasch family. In 1873 he also bought the shop of Gunmaker Hermann Toepfer and moved to the Kuhstrasse address. In 1905 Louis Bruns retired and gave his business to his nephew Louis Knappworst. Knappworst first signed as "L.Bruns Nachfolger (= sccessor)". The Knappworst family is still in business, now run by the 4th generation, Stephan Knappworst, see
    http://www.knappworst.com/ .
If you want to learn more about the Braunschweig = Brunswick gunmakers, become a GGCA member and get the "Waidmannsheil!" issues #54 and #55.

      ChuckB,

It looks like you are now a member and welcome to the community. I couldn't open your images either so please try again. Try to show all the marks if possible. There are people here that can give you detailed information on your gun from reading those markings. As a member you can buy back issues of "Waidmannsheil" as mentioned by Axel. Many of the older SxS's can be safely shot and can be great fun at clays or game. Good luck and we are looking forward to seeing your photos.

      Thanks, Diz
