Just purchased a 6.5x52mmR Kettner, 1929 Suhl Ger. for granddaughter Belle. Rounds, Dies and brass 25-35 Win. Question can this round be loaded to equal .250 Savage, hunting White Tail Deer?
I lust for a set of 6.5x57mm O/U barrels to snap on my 20 Ga. Browning Superpose.
    Regards Mickey

    Mickey,
The allowable pressure for the 6.5x52R is less than that for the 250 Savage. The question of whether you can load it to equal the 250 Savage depends upon whether it "lets go" before you get there or not.If the Kettner were mine, I would just load it to pressures appropriate for 6.5x52R. In my opinion if you load it to that level, it will serve your granddaughter well. Good on you for teaching her, I know you are proud.

I have no experience with the 6.5 x 52R but know the .25-35 fairly well and endorse Mike's suggestion. The .25-35, like the Mannlicher 6.5 m/m, has a reputation as a hunting cartridge in advance of its paper ballistics, and if the 6.5 x 52R has the very fast rifling pitch of the .25-35 it's likely to show its best with 117 or 120 grain bullets. Mickey, I have to concur with Mike and Dan. The 250 Savage has a good deal more powder space and the allowable pressure is at least 17,000+ psi higher than the 6.5x52R. Follow their advice and stick with a load that works at a pressure it was meant for. Good luck, collath

Guten morgen Gewehrschutzen, Thanks for the quick reply, Belle is 13 years, ,60 1nches tall, 78 lb we have gone from O/U 410, Ithaca 49, to Ball Gowns, she a Leftie, Right eye dominant. so brake actions or Singelshot seem to work better.

            Mickey,
In my opinion, you have bought her a nice one (without seeing it), that will serve her for the rest of her life. Be sure to teach her to handload before she finds out boys are not just stinky boys. BTW, I too am a right eye dominate left hander. One of my best friends growing up is just the opposite. She can shoot right handed since she is right eye dominate, if she is taught to. I shoot right handed, but have shot 7 or 8 deer that came "hard" to my right side, from my left shoulder. This takes a scope though. She will remember the lessons for the rest of her life, and tell her children about them, the memories will be worth more than the gun.
